Natural wound care from New Zealand: Manuka Vet

Honey has been around for centuries natural remedy for humans and animals known. Applied externally, it supports the healing of injuries and wounds.
When the bee closes the nectar in the honeycomb of its hive, A series of processes begins within the nectar that leads to Formation of methylglyoxal (MGO) leads. Methylglyoxal is known for its antibacterial properties and is therefore well suited for wound healing.
Commercially available honey only has a very low concentration of MGO. Due to the unique combination of a special nectar from the South Sea myrtle and the climatic conditions in its homeland (New Zealand and Australia), the so-called "Manuka honey" has a hundred times more MGO.

In modern science, the concentration of MGO has only been examined in more detail for a few years. Since his Effective effect on wound healing is known, we use Manuka honey as a popular supplement in naturopathy and medicine.

How does Manuka Vet honey work?

The special Manuka honey protects the wound, supports the body's own wound cleaning and promotes the healing process. The thick honey forms a film on the injured area, which can form a barrier against external influences and prevents affected areas of skin from drying out excessively - this can reduce the risk of permanent scarring.
Its high sugar and MGO content supports the formation of cleansing wound secretions, which can reduce the proliferation of germs.
